Highline Lake State Park Day-Trip Prep (Western Slope)

Highline Lake State Park sits near Loma in the Grand Valley. Before a day there, open the official CPW park page for current hours, passes, construction and fire alerts. Plan the required ANS and Clean, Drain, Dry steps for any boat, and confirm which ramp you need. Pack shore or paddle safety gear. Check fishing rules on eRegulations, never from a blog table.

Park operations and county fire restrictions change. Check CPW again the morning you drive.

Before you go

  • Passes. Check the live fee table on the park page. Don't rely on memory.
  • Morning alerts. Read them for construction, detours, fire restrictions and lake status.
  • Ramps. CPW notes a west ramp for motorized boats and an east ramp area for hand-launched boats when it's open. Check the park highlights again before you tow.
  • ANS. CPW lists Highline Lake and Mack Mesa Lake as infested with zebra mussels. Complete the required inspections and Clean, Drain, Dry. Follow CPW, and don't make up your own shortcuts.
  • Wind and heat. Valley reservoirs can get rough for small boats, and the sun is harsh. Decide your go or no-go ahead of time.
  • Shore kit. Polarized glasses, sunscreen, a hat, water, shade, basic first aid and a whistle.
