Rifle Gap Reservoir Day-Trip Prep (Western Slope)

Before a day at Rifle Gap Reservoir, open the official CPW park and fishing pages for current access and alerts. Plan Clean, Drain, Dry and the ANS steps for any boat. Pack shore or paddle safety gear. Check species rules on eRegulations, never from a blog table.

Park operations change, including ramps, ice and passes. Check CPW again the morning you drive.

Before you go

  • Passes. Make sure your park pass and entrance requirements are current.
  • Boat or kayak. Confirm the ramp or hand-launch status on the park site before you tow.
  • ANS. Clean, Drain, Dry, and complete any required inspections.
  • Wind. Rifle Gap can get rough for small boats. Set a clear go or no-go line before you launch.
  • Shore kit. Polarized glasses, sunscreen, water, shade, and rod holders if you fish from the bank.

Staying safe on the reservoir
