Today's safety note

One safety habit for the water today, from CPW guidance. It changes each day.

We do not report or verify ice conditions. Always drill test holes as you go and check Colorado Parks & Wildlife (CPW) before stepping out. Use the CPW new-clear-ice thickness reference below to review general load guidelines:

4" New Clear Ice (CPW Reference): General CPW reference threshold for a single angler on foot with hand gear. Slush, snow cover, inlets, springs, and pressure ridges weaken ice significantly—test every few steps with a spud bar.

Wear the life jacket

CPW says one U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket is required for each person, including a hand-launched boat. Children 12 and younger must wear one. CPW calls water under 70 F cold water. Cold shock can make you gasp. Wear yours. A jacket under the seat does not count. Buckle it on the ramp, before you push off. If you cannot move your arms in it, it is the wrong size.

One habit for this date. It is not the weather, and it is not the rule for your lake.
