- Whistle: One per paddler, accessible (not buried in a hatch).

- Swim honesty: Cold immersion changes everything. If you cannot calmly float, self-right, or swim to shore in a PFD in similar water, cancel craft time.
- Group gate: The weakest swimmer / newest paddler sets the cancel barΓÇönot the most confident person in the shuttle.
- Communication: Agree on simple whistle / hand signals before launch; fog and wind can erase voice distance.
- Exit plan: Know the next public take-out / lee shore before you leave the ramp. No private-bank ΓÇ£bailoutΓÇ¥ inventΓÇösee access etiquette.
- When stacked risks appear: Rising wind, fog, cold, or unclear access = shore day. Pair with fog/wind and desert heat + cold-water layering spokes.
