Corn Lake and James M. Robb Park-Day Prep (Grand Junction)

Corn Lake is one unit of James M. Robb Colorado River State Park, a park strung along the Colorado River near Grand Junction and Clifton in several sections. Before a day here, open the official CPW page for the unit you're actually using. Confirm passes, hours and alerts there.

Open these first

Confirm the unit on the park site before you count on hours, camping or a ramp. Corn Lake, Fruita, Connected Lakes, Island Acres and the Wildlife Area are different units. Don't guess hours or fees from memory. Read the live park tables.

Before you go

  • Passes and fees. Confirm what you need to get in on the park site. Options include a daily vehicle pass, Keep Colorado Wild and annual passes. We don't sell park passes.
  • Hours. Check the section hours and the visitor center or office hours that morning. They can differ by unit.
  • Which unit. Say the unit name out loud before you leave. The official page lists Corn Lake as mainly day use. Overnight camping is at other sections when it's open. Check there. Don't assume.
  • Ramp or shore. If you're launching, read the river ramp and hand-launch notes on the Corn Lake page before you tow or strap on a kayak.
  • Kids near the bank. Keep children within arm's reach near drop-offs, boat traffic and river current.
  • Heat and sun. Valley days can run hot even when the water is cold. Bring water, shade, sunscreen and polarized glasses.
  • Pets. Follow the leash and waste rules the park posts.

If you end up in the water

Hot desert air doesn't mean warm water. In spring and fall, and along shaded river edges, the water can chill you fast. Wear a life jacket in any boat, or have one ready. Know when wind or current means you stay off the water.
