Eastern Plains Reservoirs Fishing Report, Week of October 8, 2026

Newer reports, Friday, October 23, 2026: Jackson Lake, John Martin, Nee Noshe, Adobe Creek, and Two Buttes. The notes below are the October 8 record.

This is a dated weekly report built only from official gages and Colorado Parks and Wildlife notices, checked the evening of Oct. 8, 2026. It is not a bite report. We have no verified catch information for this water this week, so we do not guess at one. Re-check the linked sources the morning you go.

Eastern Plains reservoirs, week of October 8

Drought still shapes the plains this fall. John Martin is filling, but several reservoirs are closed to trailered boats, under salvage orders, or dry, per CPW.

Conditions

  • John Martin level: Colorado DWR JMRCADCO, John Martin Reservoir at Caddoa, read 31,786 acre-feet and 3,805.69 ft at 8:15 p.m. on Oct. 8, up from a daily 20,776 acre-feet and 3,801.53 ft on Oct. 1.
  • John Martin ramps: The CPW John Martin Reservoir State Park page says the West Boat Ramp is closed to trailered vessels due to low water. Hand-launched canoes and kayaks can still launch, and small boats can use the East Boat Ramp. CPW says the West Boat Ramp cove is under cautionary status for toxic algae: avoid skin contact there and keep pets from drinking the water.
  • Jackson Lake: The CPW Jackson Lake State Park page says the boat ramp is closed for the 2026 season. Hand-launched vessels are still allowed.
  • Salvage and dry waters: The CPW closures list (linked from the CPW fishing page) shows voluntary fish salvage orders at Nee Noshe Reservoir (Queens SWA) and the Hugo SWA ponds. Read each order on the list for exactly what is suspended and which methods are legal. Two Buttes Reservoir is listed as dried completely.
  • Adobe Creek: Colorado DWR ADORESCO, Adobe Reservoir, read 10,358 acre-feet at 8 p.m. on Oct. 8.
  • Stocking: No Eastern Plains reservoir is on the CPW trout stocking report as of the Oct. 2 update.
  • Ice: No CPW ice notice. Open water.

Reading the numbers

This is a regional roundup, not a single lake. Check the specific reservoir on the CPW closures list and its park or SWA page before you drive; conditions on the plains change with irrigation calls. There is no official water temperature for these lakes and we have no catch reports.

Access

Many plains reservoirs are State Wildlife Areas or State Parks with their own pass and access rules. Read the page for your reservoir and launch only where CPW says it is open.

Safety

Toxic algae can be present in warm, low water. Avoid scummy or discolored water, keep dogs out of it, and rinse off after contact. Wear a life jacket on any boat, kayak or paddleboard, tell someone your plan and return time, and Clean, Drain, Dry between waters (how to clean your gear). See Colorado Safety Essentials and our cold-water shoulder-season checklist.

Regs

Read CPW rules and regulations, the CPW fishing hub and Colorado fishing eRegulations for the exact water before you keep a fish. We do not print bag or size limits. Our Colorado fishing laws page explains where to look.
