This is a dated weekly report built only from official gages and Colorado Parks and Wildlife notices, checked the evening of Oct. 8, 2026. It is not a bite report. We have no verified catch information for this water this week, so we do not guess at one. Re-check the linked sources the morning you go.
Colorado River, Glenwood to the Utah line, week of October 8
The river through the Grand Valley dropped slowly all week. Flows at Cameo are down from a 1,370 cfs daily average on Sept. 30 to about 1,130 cfs on the evening of Oct. 8, and the water is still running in the low to mid 60s F in the evening.
Conditions
- Cameo flow: USGS 09095500, Colorado River near Cameo, read 1,130 cfs at 8:45 p.m. MDT on Oct. 8. Daily averages slid from about 1,300 cfs (Sept. 30 to Oct. 2) to about 1,140 cfs (Oct. 5 to 8).
- Cameo water temp: 18.0 C (64 F) at 8:45 p.m. On Oct. 8 it ranged from 15.8 to 18.8 C (60 to 66 F).
- Upstream: USGS 09085100, below Glenwood Springs, read 1,010 cfs at 8:15 p.m., down from about 1,180 cfs on Sept. 30. The De Beque gage (USGS 09093700) returned no current flow data when we checked, so we have no De Beque number this week.
- Downstream: USGS 09163500, near the Colorado-Utah state line, read 1,710 cfs and 19.4 C (67 F) at 8:45 p.m., down from 2,240 cfs on Sept. 30. That reading includes the Gunnison.
- Plateau Creek: USGS 09105000, Plateau Creek near Cameo, read 20.3 cfs at 8 p.m.
- Closures: The Colorado River is not on the CPW closures list (linked from the CPW fishing page) as of Oct. 8. The James M. Robb Colorado River State Park page says there are no closures at this time.
- Stocking: None of this reach is on the CPW trout stocking report as of the Oct. 2 update.
- Ice: No CPW ice notice. This is open water.
Reading the numbers
Falling fall flows usually mean more wadeable edges than in September, but 1,100-plus cfs is still a big river. CPW asks anglers to move to other water when the water temperature is 70 F or higher; the evening highs here are in the mid 60s, so fish early, land fish fast and keep them wet. We have no catch reports to share this week.
Access
Private land lines much of this river. Fish from posted public access only: the James M. Robb sections, signed public ramps, and BLM land you can confirm on a map. CPW lists the river from the Eagle River confluence down to the Utah line as infested with zebra mussels, so dry your boat and waders before your next water.
Safety
Even at 1,100 cfs this is cold, pushy water with soft, sandy edges. Skip crossings and keep a wading staff on the bank days. Wear a life jacket on any boat, kayak or paddleboard, tell someone your plan and return time, and Clean, Drain, Dry between waters (how to clean your gear). See Colorado Safety Essentials and our cold-water shoulder-season checklist.
Regs
Read CPW rules and regulations, the CPW fishing hub and Colorado fishing eRegulations for the exact water before you keep a fish. We do not print bag or size limits. Our Colorado fishing laws page explains where to look.
