Grand Junction fishing report: Colorado River and James M. Robb, week of September 28, 2026

I would drive to James M. Robb. Cameo is 1150 cfs and 16.2 C at 11:15 a.m., provisional (USGS 09095500).

This is the week of September 28, 2026 note for the Colorado River near Grand Junction and James M. Robb. Cameo is the river. It is not a reading of a park pond.

On September 28, 2026, at 7:45 a.m. MDT, USGS gage 09095500, Colorado River near Cameo, was provisional 1390 cfs and 17.1 C (62.8 F). One reading. The gage can revise it.

Pick one section before you leave town

CPW describes James M. Robb as one park in five river sections, from Fruita on the west to Island Acres on the east. Between them are Connected Lakes, the Colorado River Wildlife Area and Pear Park Trails, and Corn Lake, the main office on 32 Road in Clifton. CPW lists about 35 miles of river and 13 miles of trail in the park. Pick one section as the plan and one as the backup. If the lot is full, you move to the backup. You do not invent a bank on the way.

The CPW park page has the pass price. Hours on that page, as we have them in the trip prep, are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. The office day is shorter, so call if you need a person. Confirm the hours the morning you go.

How we fish a valley day

That is how we fish it. They are not a promise of a fish. On the river, start at the soft edge, the inside bend, and the seam below a riffle, while the bank is still in shade. When the desert sun is on the water, that edge warms. Move to shade, or go to the pond section you named as the backup. On the ponds, keep the cast tight to the weed or the rock you can see. If you cannot tell a public bank from private land, stay in the truck.

Before the next water

CPW lists the Colorado River from the Eagle River confluence to the Utah line as infested with zebra mussels, along with a few ponds in this park. Clean, drain, and dry anything that touched the water before it goes to the next one.

The license rules, including who fishes free and who needs the Habitat Stamp, live on the CPW fishing page. Read them the day you buy. We do not print a bag limit.
